Shalom! Where are we operating our authority from, what is our spiritual position of authority? This is a vital question which must be answered now. And the answer is found in the epistle of Paul to the Ephesians:
Ephesians 2: 4-6
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
God's mercy made us alive together with Jesus, raised us up together with Him, and made us sit together with Him in heavenly places. Our position as believers in Christ is with Jesus in heavenly places far above all principalities and powers.
We're seated where Christ sits. It doesn't really matter how long ago it was when anyone of us got born-again. This one is an automatic placement by our heavenly Father because of His love for us.
Even though we were automatically placed there because of our faith in Jesus, our authority has to be exercised by us. The authority doesn't work by itself. You must work it. It is at your disposal - all the time. Let's see what Paul did with his in the book of Acts:
Acts 13: 6-12
6 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:
7 Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.
8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.
9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,
10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.
12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.
It takes faith to effectively exercise this authority which has been given to us over all the powers of the devil (Luke 10: 19). I'll explain how in my next posting. God bless.
