The Holy Spirit

The Holy Ghost Baptism (Part 3)
BY REVD 'REMI TEJUMOLA

(Acts 2: 1-13; Acts 10: 44-48)
In water baptism, a person is immersed or fully dipped into water; the water covered you just like when a person is buried in a grave. In the Holy Ghost baptism, Jesus dips the believer into the Holy Ghost; and the person becomes empowered to serve Jesus. Let us see the first New Testament account, after the resurrection of Christ:

ACTS 2: 1-4
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come,
they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven
as f a mighty rushing wind, and it filled all the house
where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues
like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and
began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit
gave them utterance.

The 4th verse here describes the normal experience of all those who have been baptized in the Holy Ghost: they were filled with the Holy Ghost, and they began to speak with other tongues. This is the normal way. Let’s look at other biblical passages:

ACTS 10: 44-46
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost
fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were
astonished, as many as came with Peter, because
that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of
the Holy Ghost
46 For they HEARD THEM SPEAK WITH TONGUES, and
magnify God.

[Gentiles are every nation that is not Jewish, and yet, they got baptized in the Holy Ghost and started speaking with tongues. There were just two kinds of people in the whole world before the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ: Israelites and Gentiles. But since the resurrection took place, there are now Christians, Israelites and Gentiles.]

Let’s see the account of Acts 19 again:

ACTS 19: 1-7
1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was
at Corinth, Paul having passed through the
upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding
certain disciples,
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the
Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said
unto him, We have not so much as heard
whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were
ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the
BAPTISM OF REPENTANCE, saying unto the people,
that they should believe on him which should
come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the
name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them,
THE HOLY GHOST CAME ON THEM; AND THEY SPAKE
WITH TONGUES, AND PROPHESIED.
7 And all the men were about twelve.

Each time a person gets baptized in the Holy Ghost, he speaks with tongues. This is the Bible evidence for the Holy Ghost baptism.

Now get this: the Holy Ghost doesn’t speak with tongues; people do so when He (the Holy Ghost) gives them utterance. Many times, some people expect the Holy Ghost to force them to speak in tongues. But, no, He doesn’t do such things. He gives you the ability to speak with tongues, and YOU DO the speaking as you saw in the Bible passages I gave earlier. Go over them again at this point for clarity regarding this important issue. Remember, “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2: 4).

GOD’S PLAN
If what you want is what we read about in Acts 2: 4, it is available to you now. If you want the Lord to fill you with His Holy Ghost, you are right on line. The Lord Himself wants you filled with His Spirit. In the book of Joel, He said:

JOEL 2: 28-30
28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will
pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons
and daughters shall prophesy, your old men
shall dream dreams, your young men shall see
visions:
29 And also upon the servants and upon the
handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
30 And I will show wonders in the heavens and
in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

Jesus began to baptize people into the Holy Ghost on that day of Pentecost as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2: 1-4). This precious experience in God has continued even till now – almost 2, 000 years later! The story has been wonderful all through these many years. Many lives have been changed by the power of God!

MY TESTIMONY
I gave my life to Christ and got born-again on the 25th of February, 1985. I did not know that I was not a Christian until I experienced the New Birth. I had thought that the mere fact one attends a church, and have what we called ‘a Christian name’ then he must be a Christian. But this is not so.

Anyone who is not born-again, in the sight of God and the devil, is not a Christian, no matter what kind of church he attends (Orthodox, Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, Catholic, Charismatic, Evangelical, Denominational, Seventh-Day or Pentecostal).

How good and pious you are does not make you a Christian. Neither will been a Pastor, Evangelist, Apostle, Reverend, Bishop, Arch-Bishop or any kind of man of God make you a Christian. You have to be born-again to be a Christian.

For your information, I was a Methodist from the day I was born till the day that I got born-again. I never knew that I needed to be born-again. In the Methodist church, I was never told. If John Wesley could visit that church today, he would weep and cry. He knew and preached what it means to be born-again because he experienced it!

Jesus said, “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again” (John 3: 7). I thank God that I got born-again that day!

Around the middle of the month of March 1985, I learnt about the baptism in the Holy Ghost, and sought for the experience. On the 5th of April 1985, I experienced the Holy Ghost baptism with the biblical evidence of speaking in tongues, just like the early Christians in the Acts of the Apostles. The Holy Ghost baptism gave my Christian life a great boost. I became an on-fire Christian with the power of the Holy Ghost upon my life.

I spoke with tongues, and the power of the Almighty God began to flow through my veins. I became a worker in the ministry the following month under the leadership of Rev. (Dr.) I. K. U. Ibeneme (of blessed memory) at the Faith Clinic Nigeria, Incorporated. There, we saw the power of God in raw manifestation as it touches people, resulting in healing and deliverance!

On one of those weekends, the workers of that ministry were having a prayer session in preparation to minister to the needs of people, when one of us, an elderly woman, came out and requested for prayer for herself, because at that moment she was having an attack of migraine headache. The brother that was leading us in prayer, asked us all to pray in tongues for her, and we did. After he rounded off the prayer in tongues, he asked me to pray for her.

She stood in the middle of the circle of workers. From my end of the circle, with her facing me, I pointed my fore-finger at her head as I commanded, “You foul headache, be gone from her now in the name of Jesus!” Suddenly, an unseen power picked her up off the floor and threw her backwards! I felt nothing when that happened, but was left speechless, looking at my finger. When she got off the ground, she claimed that the headache was gone. Glory is to God for ever and ever! It’s been a tremendous experience in God ever since, and now I have my own ministry by the grace of God, touching lives all over the world with the Word and the Power of God!

YOUR TURN
You too can experience the baptism in the Holy Ghost wherever you are. God is reaching out for you now. You see, as a believer in Christ who has experienced the New Birth (i.e., born-again), you are ready and qualified to be baptized in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with tongues (Acts 2:4). By the grace of God, in 21 years, I have helped hundreds of believers to experience this baptism. So, it is an easy thing to do.

THE PROVISION: The baptism that I’m talking to you about has been provided for all believers since 2, 000 years ago when the Holy Ghost was sent into this world. So, all that a believer needs to do is to receive by faith. I will show you now how it works.

As we are about to get to our destination on this page, hold these words in your mind: the promises of God only work for those that believe them. You can receive the Holy Ghost baptism by faith.
1. GOD GIVES TO ALL: The greatest gift of God to the world is Jesus, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3: 16); and the greatest gift of God to His children is the Holy Ghost. Jesus said, “And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” (Luke 11: 9-13). God wants every believer full of the Holy Ghost. He desires that you be filled with the Holy Ghost, and has made the provision for you already!

2. RECEIVE THE HOLY GHOST BY FAITH: The heavenly Father gave the Holy Ghost about 2, 000 ago; Jesus is the One Who baptizes in the Holy Ghost, and He is ready to baptize you now where you are. John the Baptist called Jesus the Baptizer in the Holy Ghost and fire (Matthew 3: 11).

In the Gospel according to St. Mark, Jesus taught us how to get things from God in prayer. He said:

MARK 11: 24
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever
ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive
them, and ye shall receive them
.

Notice that Jesus said “What things soever ye desire”. This means you must have something you really want. In this case what you really want is to be baptized in the Holy Ghost like the early Christians did (Acts 2: 4).

Then He said, “… when you pray”. This means that Jesus wants you to pray. In prayer you are to ask the Father for the things you really want from Him in the name of Jesus - not for Jesus’ sake (John 16: 23-24). But it’s not all prayer that you to get things from God. Jesus gave us the clue as to how the prayer will work.

He said, “… BELIEVE THAT YE RECEIVE THEM”. This is where prayers either work or fail. You must believe something WHEN YOU PRAY – at the TIME OR MOMENT of your prayer. Jesus said to believe you receive what you prayed for/about AT THE TIME OF PRAYER. Once you believe that you have received the things you prayed for, God will take over from there. You must believe that something has taken place. If you asked God for you to be filled with the Holy Ghost, believe that it has happened as you prayed. Then, Jesus said, “… and ye shall receive them”. Once you take that step of believing that it has happened, God will immediately make sure that it does.

I spent about 45mins explaining these words to a Holy Ghost baptism candidate in 1986, during a counseling session. She took those important steps and she got baptized in the Holy Ghost where she was seated with the cool wind of the Spirit blowing on her!

A fellow from Calabar, Nigeria, who works at the Prisons, wrote to the Faith Clinic office that he wanted the Holy Ghost baptism at the reception of our reply mail, followed the instruction that I gave and was knocked out by the Spirit of God on the floor for 2hrs, praying in tongues as he was filled with the Holy Ghost!

NOW
God is with you right where you are now, and is ready to fill you with the Holy Ghost. But, if right now what I taught you is still unclear, go over this entire lesson over and over until you do get it. However, if you understand this lesson, look over these points carefully and pray accordingly:

1. GOD HAS PROVIDED THE HOLY GHOST ALREADY AND HE WANTS YOU BAPTIZED INTO HIM.
2. TELL GOD THAT AS HIS CHILD, YOU’RE NOW RECEIVING THE HOLY GHOST WHOM HE HAS GIVEN FOR ALL BELIEVERS.
3. BELIEVE NOW THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED AND BEGIN TO THANK GOD FOR ANSWERED PRAYER.
4. AFTER YOU SAY AMEN, DO NOT SPEAK ANOTHER WORD THAT YOU KNOW. BEGIN TO SPEAK WORDS YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OR SPOKEN BEFORE.
5. AS YOU DO THIS, GOD WILL TAKE OVER, AND THE RIVER WILL BEGIN TO FLOW!

Make this your prayer:

Dear heavenly Father,
I thank You because I am Your child
and because I am here right now to receive
the gift of the Holy Ghost according to Acts 2: 4.
By faith I receive the infilling of the Holy Ghost
and I believe that I am baptized in the Holy Ghost
now with the evidence of speaking with OTHER TONGUES.
Father I thank You for this precious gift. Amen.
Hallelujah!

A Soldier Gone To Headquaters

By Revd 'Remi Tejumola Shalom! A senior friend just went home to be with the Lord, PASTOR PATRICK EZEKUDE OBAZE. He was aged 78 years old. I got to know him in 1985 after I became a part of the Faith Clinic which was founded by Rev. (Dr.) I.K.U. Ibeneme of blessed memory. Uncle 'Bobo' Obaze, as was fondly called by Dr. Ibeneme, was one of the numerous workers that the Faith Clinic had in those days in the mid-80s. All the workers came from different churches and ministries, and were of various ages and giftings. In spite of his age, He was simple and humble. He was easy to get along with, and very kind. He loved Jesus and was as excited about Him as anyone of us was who were much younger than he was. Like other workers of the ministry he was involved in deliverance ministrations. He often traveled with Dr. Ibeneme for outside ministrations. He also had a special love to minister the Holy Ghost baptism. He had great success in this area of ministry. I know it because I was a...

Re-visiting Faith #5

By Revd 'Remi Tejumola Shalom! One can spend a whole lifetime studying the subject of faith and one will continue to learn so many sides that are involved therein. Let's look at our main text again: Hebrews 11: 6 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Diligence is an attribute and attitude of faith. There is a kind of seriousness that is attached to the Bible kind of faith which is why God demands diligence in the seeker. The dictionary defines the word "diligence" as "careful and conscientious" and the word "careful" as "paying close attention". The word "conscientious" is defined "been diligent with one's work" . I don't think this can be overly emphasised since it is the very basis and fabric of our relationship with the Most High God. You can just imagine why this faith business ...

All Consuming Desire #5

By Revd 'Remi Tejumola Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour really gave us the definition of faith in Mark 11:23-24. He showed us exactly what we need to do. So everytime we take the faith stand, what we believe matters. We can't say after we've prayed the prayer of faith, "I am expecting such and such from God." To do that is to get out of faith which will abort our prayer. You must believe that you have recieved what you asked for in prayer WHEN YOU PRAY, and then it will manifest. But if you want to wait untill you see it manifest, you will never get to see it. This is where B.U.S.H. comes in. Believe you have recieved Untill Something Happens (untill it manifest). Once you believe you have recieved, stay put in that mode - regardless of how you feel or what you've not seen or felt. Just believe it's done for you already. That's what will cause the manifestation! Jesus said, "Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, ...
