The Bible #3

THE BIBLE is the Word of God. God speaks to us through it. You need to understand that there is a difference between the spoken Word and Jesus, the Living Word. They are not one and the same.

Jesus said, "Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:" (Matthew 7:24). Notice that Jesus emphasised the importance of the things He said in the above passage. We are not expected to build our lives on Jesus, but on the Words He spoke - His teachings.

When He was praying for us He said to the Father, "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth" (John 17:17). He didn't ask God to use Him, the person, to sanctify us. He asked God to use His Word to do it.

The Word of God is the will of God. It is what God wants done. It is what He requires of us. Whatever He said are those things He has thought of, with the intention of doing. The Bible says, "God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19).

Whether you read it in the Bible or you heard it from the Holy Spirit, God's Word is the same. You can count on it. You can trust it. You can stake your life on it. It never fails.

God said, "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereunto I sent it" (Isaiah 55:11).

Time Element in Faith

By Revd 'Remi Tejumola Shalom! There is an element of time involved in the principle of faith. Misunderstanding this important element will cause a failure of faith. The Bible says, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1). When should one take the step of faith? (Now!) Paul said, "Now faith is . . . the evidence of things not seen". When you are standing by faith, what you're believing God for is neither seen nor felt. You're just standing in faith for it - calling those things which be not as though they were. If you've asked God for a car, by faith you say, 'I believe that I have my car now.' This is neither pretence nor a lie. You really must believe this way. You don't have to see it first or feel it before you believe it. Faith's Place
